tierney nikols wasn't always named such. she was born nicole analise calloway in hanson, massachusetts on june 2, 1904. she lived quite the simple life. her father was a wealthy business owner and her mother was a stay at home mom, like most women were back in that time. she had everything she wanted growing up; a loving family, a nice social standing, great friends. she lived in small town america where nothing ever really happened, but she liked it that way. that's why nicole thought nothing of her best guy friend wanting to take her for a walk the night of her eighteenth birthday. as they strolled through the town park at near ten o'clock, she noticed her friend, matthew, acting a bit nervous. she asked him repeatedly if something was wrong, but he always just brushed it off, telling her he was just tired.
nearer the middle of the park they drew, and it was there they were approached by a stranger coming the opposite direction. matthew's stance stiffened as the man approached and nicole became wary of this man. she didn't like the tension he brought in the air. he stopped before them, smiling at them both genuinely and greeted matthew. matthew simply nodded and muttered introductions. the other held his hand out to nicole and kissed the top of it lightly when she rested her fingers in his. his name was bane moreaux and he was here on business. they talked a few minutes more casually when bane turned to matthew.
"is she the one you promised me?" he asked her friend. matthew nodded and mumbled his response. "y-yes s-she is-s." bane turned his smiling face on nicole and nodded once. "not bad, matthew, not bad at all," he priased him, letting his voice trail off.
nicole had had enough of this. what were they talking about? she wasn't matthew's to promise to anyone. she demanded to know what was going on, but bane soothed her worries softly. "don't fear, m'dear. i'll take care of you."
nicole protested only a few minutes more and the rest she doesn't remember. the next thing she recalls is waking up in an unfamiliar room, with bane sitting by the window. she couldn't remember anything. nothing of her previous life, including friends, family and even her name. this was normal, bane had said, so he gave her a new name. tierney. tierney nikols. it was after all that had been settled that he explained things to her. bane was a vampire, and matthew had caught him feeding one night, a mistake that usually results in the loss of the viewers life. but matthew had found bane's weakness; beautiful, young girls, and had promised him one in return for his life. and my, had matthew ever come through.
nicole lived with bane for the next few years, hating what she was. but she couldn't escape it. she'd tried to starve herself, but the result was more than pleasant. the need to drink became so strong that she ravaged the closest thing with life to her, causing much more of a scene than was needed. she tried killing herself, but that was easier said than done. no, it appeared as if nicole was stuck with what she was.
once she accepted her life, she learned more and more about her abilities. she was strong, inhumanly strong, and fast too. she was able to lift things mortals would never dream of lifting and could travel much faster than any train or car. her night vision was twenty times that of a human being, as were her other senses. she could hear things even a dog could not, as well as smell too. and other things came along with these. now she was able to hear thoughts, read people's minds almost. she could tell if someone wished her ill will, which is mostly what she used this power for since she felt it was an invasion of someone's privacy to use it otherwise.
she also learned what was fact and what was fiction. for example, garlic had no affect on them. neither did crosses or holy water. a steak through the heart would merely break apart on their skin or deflect off since they were more solid than most stone. no, the only way to be sure you'd killed one of her kind was to burn them alive, which was most successfully accomplished by exposing their skin to sunlight. it was a slow and painful burning process, but it did work.
